This Dill Pickle Dip with Cottage Cheese hits that creamy, tangy, salty-sour pickle spot right away. It’s smooth, light, and loaded with dill pickle flavor, making it perfect for parties, game day, or those fridge-door snack moments with veggies and crackers.
It takes about 5 minutes to make, start to finish. No cooking, no chilling, no drama. Everything gets mixed together and you’re done. The base is cottage cheese and mayo, with chopped dill pickles, pickle juice, Dijon mustard, dried dill, garlic powder, and salt & pepper bringing all that classic pickle dip flavor. This one came from my love of pickles and wanting a dip that felt a little smarter without losing the fun. Swapping sour cream for cottage cheese keeps it creamy, adds protein, and somehow makes it even more scoopable. Once you try it, the store-bought stuff is going to feel very unnecessary. I add it to my Turkey Ranch Club wraps instead of ranch!

Key Recipe Ingredients
The full list of ingredients and amounts is found in the printable recipe card below.
- Cottage cheese. Gives this dip a creamy base and packs in protein. You can use full-fat, 2%, or low-fat cottage cheese – full-fat makes the dip richer and creamier, while lower-fat versions keep it lighter but a little less smooth. Greek yogurt also works as a substitute if you prefer.
- Mayonnaise. Adds that rich, silky texture. Use light mayo if you want to trim it down. Cream cheese can also be used, but experiment with just a little first.
- Dill pickles. The star of the show! Go with your favorite brand or make your own dill pickles. You can use pickle chips, sandwich sliced or spears. Just chop them up so you have a half cup.
- Dijon mustard. Adds a little kick and depth. Regular yellow mustard works too.
- Dried dill. Dried dill brings the classic pickle flavor and mixes in evenly. If you want to use fresh dill, double the amount (about 2 teaspoons) and chop it finely so the flavor distributes well. Fresh dill will make the dip brighter and more herb-forward.
- Garlic powder. If you’d rather use fresh garlic, mince 1 small clove and add it in – just be careful, raw garlic can be sharp and will give the dip a stronger bite.

Add the cottage cheese, mayonnaise, chopped dill pickles, and pickle juice to a food processor. Blend until completely smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed.

Transfer the mixture to a bowl, then add the Dijon mustard, dried dill, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until everything is fully combined and evenly mixed.
That’s it. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, then serve right away or chill briefly to let the flavors settle.

Troubleshooting Guide – Common Problems and Solutions
- Too runny? Cut back on the pickle juice or blend in more cottage cheese.
- Too salty? Use low-sodium pickles and skip extra salt.
- Not pickle-y enough? Add more chopped pickles or an extra splash of juice.
- Tastes a little flat? A pinch more dill, garlic powder, or mustard usually fixes it.
