Almond butter is expensive, but it’s SO delicious and is a great alternative to those allergic to peanuts and peanut butter. (Although, if you’re allergic to almonds, this won’t be a great recipe for you). Making almond butter at home is kind of ridiculously easy, and you’ll get a smooth, creamy jar of almond butter ready to use wherever you like!

Since having kids we have been trying to be a little more conscious of what we eat, since they copy everything we do. That means – if we eat processed food and junk, so will they. We eat our snacks when they’re in bed.

This is a great recipe to make with kids, it’s fun to see this come together!

There are many things in my pantry that I know I can make at home, and this is no exception.

Why you’ll love this recipe

  • Just one ingredient!
  • Budget-friendly
  • Quick to make! (about 30 minutes total)
  • This recipe is gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, dairy-free. In case it is not obvious, this recipe is NOT nut-free.

Equipment needed:

Food processor or high powered blender.

How do I know it’s working?

  • It will look a lot like almond meal first up, see the pictures below for the stages, and what it looks like.
  • Eventually, it will go from almond meal to a more butter-like consistency. Use a spatula every minute or so to scrape down the sides. The heat from the food processor, plus the pulsing will take it from grainy to creamy – have faith!

Should I add oil when I toast the almonds?

No, these are dry roasted almonds. Some almond butter recipes include coconut oil and sea salt, but this is a simple (and just as delicious) recipe!

How to customize your almond butter

  • A little maple syrup, or honey will make this sweeter.
  • A pinch of cinnamon is AMAZING.
  • Some vanilla bean paste, or a little vanilla extract

Ingredients in Almond Butter

Almonds. Just regular almonds. We’ll use about 3 cups of almonds (1lb).

raw almonds on a baking sheet

I like to toast mine fresh, but you can buy them already roasted (just make sure they are unsalted almonds)

ROASTING THE ALMONDS (If you’ve bought roasted almonds, skip this step).

roasted almonds on a baking sheet

Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spread your raw almonds on a baking sheet and toast the almonds, turning occasionally – for about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the size of your almonds. If you can smell them – they’re done!.

Allow to cool slightly.

MAKE ALMOND BUTTER

Start with just a little in the food processor, then get the motor running. Add handfuls of almonds to the food processor.

Blend, pulsing, until it is creamy and spreadable. The heat from the food processor and the blending will work – I promise!
