Dense, buttery and vanilla-y, these blondies will satisfy your sweet tooth!
This recipe is an old favorite of mine to share with my family and anyone who happens to stop by my house. Blondies are buttery, dense, have a chewy texture and a delicious brown sugar/vanilla flavor, similar to butterscotch.
If you love these blondies, you’ll love my easy Homemade Brownies or my Old Fashioned Buttermilk Pie!
The smell of these baking fills my home, bringing everyone together. Make a double or triple batch for bake sales or other similar events – this blondie recipe is simple to make, using just 7 ingredients. I’d call that a winner!
What is the difference between a Brownie and a Blondie?
They’re very similar in that they both contain flour, eggs, butter or oil, and sugar. However, Blondies are vanilla-based and use brown sugar, whereas Brownies are chocolate-based and use white. They’re both delicious!
I have included step by step photos and instructions, as well as tips and tricks in the post. If you’d rather skip all that, scoot right on down to the recipe card located at the bottom of the post.
Equipment needed:
You’ll need a large bowl, a 8×8 baking pan and a wooden spoon for mixing. No stand mixer or any other special equipment required!
Kylee’s Notes
- It is ok if the middle is a bit soft as it will firm up as it cools.
- You may wish to add semi-sweet chocolate chips, white chocolate chips or butterscotch chips to your blondies. I like them plain, but you do you!
- Chopped nuts are a great addition, try macadamia, walnut or pecan for an epic twist!
- Lining the baking pan with parchment paper will help you remove the blondies from the pan cleanly.
Ingredients
The full list of ingredients and quantities is found in the printable recipe card below.
- Butter. I use unsalted butter in this recipe, but use salted interchangeable with no issues. If you’re worried, just reduce the salt you add, or leave it out altogether.
- Brown Sugar. Dark brown sugar or light brown sugar works just fine in this recipe.
- Eggs. I use large ones!
- Vanilla
- Flour. Regular, all-purpose flour.
- Baking Powder
- Salt. See above.

I made these today and turned out great! I was looking for a recipe that I could double and use a half sheet pan; needed to make a large batch for a function. They ended up being the perfect thickness and we’re chewy.
I have a tip: make sure when you melt the butter that you cook the butter long enough that you get brown butter. That enhances the flavor and makes them taste even better!

The flavour is so good! I almost deducted a star because the recipe says “Allow to cool completely on a wire rack, then remove to a cutting board and cut into squares.” My stupidity thought transfer onto wire rack right away and I made a huge mess!!! Big mistake. Will bake again next time and allow to cool a bit before putting on wire rack

These are delicious and simple. I will try a 9×13 pan next time. Mine came out thicker than our family likes. Thanks for the recipe.

I made this recipe and it looks great, but I think 45 minutes is way to long on the bake. I took mine out (thankfully) at 38 minutes and they were plenty done. My oven runs true to temp.

These are one of the best desserts I’ve ever had. They’re decadently moist in the center and satisfyingly chewy around the edges; the corners are the best. They are life changing, as far as desserts go. lol
Add white chocolate chips for extra oomph.

Outstanding and yummy! Thank you

Made this for my twins 3rd birthday party, figured my guests might want something other than vanilla, chocolate, and pistachio macarons. I turned it into 24 cupcakes and ended up playing with the time of baking. they stayed in there about 20 minutes and smelled a lil crispy (the butterscotch did specifically) but turned out PERFECTLY. theyre gooey but not underdone, my kids shared one to test it with some ice cream and loved it.

Delicious! I added walnut pieces and made a maple glaze = pure bliss! Thanks so much!

Would this work in a 8″ x 8″ pan?
Kylee says
yes, although you’d need to adjust your cooking time and they will be thicker

These are melt-in-your mouth delicious! They’re chewy and rich and almost have a caramel taste to them. My girls loved them and we will be making them again! I whipped together a topping of melted butter, maple syrup, a little honey, and a pinch of salt and it was DIVINE!

Hi, can i use oil instead of butter? thank you.
Kylee says
I have not tried that, but I can’t imagine it tasting good. Butter has a wonderful flavor that lends itself well to blondies (and is kind of key)
