Around here, we love s’mores. This s’mores dip has all the signature chocolate and gooey marshmallow-y goodness that you’d find in a classic s’mores and is a fun alternative when you’re not gathered around the campfire.

And because it requires no sandwiching between graham crackers, it also doesn’t require extra time to wrap all of them in foil. This makes it an easy oven baked 10 minute recipe!

I love turning classic desserts into sweet, velvety dessert dips. You get all the flavor of s’mores without the fuss.

I’ve done it with brownie batter dip as well as cookie dough dip, so I knew s’mores dip would be just as amazing.

What comes out of the oven is a layer of melty chocolate topped with toasty golden marshmallows, puffed up and waiting to be deflated with a graham cracker dipper, fresh fruit, and whatever other tasty dippers you are serving it with.

  • When a campfire isn’t possible, or when you want a fun decadent dessert to serve year-round, this baked chocolate and marshmallow dip is exactly what you’re looking for.

Key Recipe Ingredients

Note: This highlights some ingredients. Full list is in the recipe card

  • Butter. Unsalted or salted, it’s up to you. It’s just used to grease the baking dish, cast-iron pan, or skillet you’re using.
  • Chocolate Chips. Regular or mini chocolate chips are what I use, but you can also use semi-sweet chocolate chips instead. Dark chocolate is also great! Aim for good quality chocolate for best results and easy melting. You can also go for a chocolate bar (hershey’s milk chocolate bars are likely your best bet). Basically, any type of chocolate that you love will work great!
  • Mini Marshmallows. Large marshmallows can also be used.
  • Dippers: Graham crackers, biscoff cookies, pretzel chips, strawberries

How to make this recipe

Jump

Get prepped. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Heat an empty 8-inch cast iron skillet in the oven for 5 minutes.

Make the dip. Remove the skillet from the oven, then add the butter and melt, then use a brush to grease the bottom and sides of the skillet. Get it good.

Carefully add the chocolate chips and spread them out in an even layer. Arrange the marshmallows on top. These will puff up, so don’t add too many!

Bake the dip. Bake for 3-4 minutes in the preheated oven until the marshmallows are golden brown on top, and the chocolate is melty. Keep a close eye on it, you don’t want it to brun!

Serve. Remove from the oven and allow the dip to cool slightly, then serve with graham crackers, biscoff cookies, fruit etc.

Kylee’s Notes

What to do with leftovers

Keep any leftovers stored in an airtight container for a few days. You can reheat it using the microwave, but be careful not to overheat it or it’ll burn and the chocolate will seize.

This will not freeze well. Please do not do it, my friends.

Substitutions/Additions

I like the sweetness of milk chocolate in the layer of chocolate chips, but if you prefer semi-sweet, you can use it instead.

Swirl in a scoop of peanut butter into the melted chocolate for a peanut butter chocolate s’mores dip recipe. Swapping some chocolate chips for peanut butter chips would be a neat idea too.

FAQs

Do marshmallows melt in the oven?

The insides do! They toast up nice in the oven. Golden toasted marshmallows are toasted on the top get soft and gooey on the inside, but hold their structure until they’re dipped into.

Can I make this smores dip recipe ahead of time?

You can certainly assemble it ahead of time, but you wouldn’t get that initial hot skillet that would help melt the chocolate chips.
Once assembled, keep it at room temperature covered in plastic wrap, until you’re ready to bake it.
