This weeknight dinner tastes much more complicated than it is!

We love pasta in any form, and regularly make skillet lasagna as well as Spaghetti Bolognese. Ever since trying Ravioli Lasagna from Costco, I was on a mission to recreate it at home.

Well, folks, I did. We love this recipe for many reasons, mainly how FAST it is to pull together as well as how it captures the flavor of lasagna without 6 layers!

My family loves this, but it’s also a great recipe to make for holidays and potlucks. You’ll be pretty darn popular if you show up with this!

I use cheese ravioli in this recipe, but spinach and cheese is an excellent one to sub. If I’m using ravioli with Italian sausage or ground beef in the filling, I skip the sausage in the sauce (or not) and just use marinara sauce.

You can use frozen ravioli or fresh ravioli with very little variance in cook time. The sauce and water cooks the ravioli right in the oven!

This is a GREAT weeknight dinner and can be adapted to use whatever you happen to have on hand.

This is a great recipe to make for friends and family who need a premade meal due to surgery, having a baby, suffering a loss etc.

Why you’ll love this

  • Super easy. We use a few shortcuts, and make this with very little effort.
  • Delicious. I mean, seriously.
  • Make ahead. I can throw this together in the morning and let it hang out in the fridge, ready to bake later for dinner.

Kylee’s Notes

What to do with leftovers

Store in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat to piping hot!

Substitutions/Additions

You can use any type of ravioli, with any filling you like. They don’t even have to be square! The round ones are awesome. Just layer them the same way as the squares.

Ground beef can be used in place of sausage, and you can use up to 1lb of meat in the sauce with no other changes.

Fresh mozzarella can be used in between the layers for a thick, gooey cheesy center.

Can you bake fresh ravioli without boiling?

Absolutely! The sauce with the added water will cook them right up for you.

What goes with ravioli for dinner?

I love garlic knots, an arugula salad or some steamed vegetables.

You say use frozen ravioli. Do you cook first, or layer frozen, or thawed only????
    Recipe doesn’t say. Please help.
    Thank you.

  2. 5 stars for family response to the meal. They loved it. 5 stars for ease of prep and fabulous directions. You did not miss a beat here. I used double amount of sauce due to family preference and it came out great. I just added sauce to middle layer. I did entire prep with grandson playing which usually does not happen. Even had some meat left over for the dog . Thank you
