This homemade poultry seasoning recipe will save you a trip to the store, and let you control the flavor! Make a batch and keep it handy for when you need to spice up dinner.
Many recipes I use call for “poultry seasoning blend”, I make my own. Since much like all of the spice blends you find in the grocery store, they’re all able to be substituted using herbs and spices you already have in your pantry.
No need for an extra purchase, or to pay a premium price for someone to blend it for you. Also good for my friends in the other hemisphere, who might not be able to find these things in their stores!
Making your own blends means you can change it up however you like! Plus, pre-made seasonings often contain fillers, so if you make your own – you are guaranteed a better quality finished dish.
Why you’ll love this recipe
- Simple ingredients that you probably already own.
- Convenience: no need for a trip to the store!

How to use Poultry Seasoning:
Use it as a rub, or in recipes such as Homemade Stuffing, and Chicken Noodle Soup. This Slow Cooker Chicken & Barley Soup (from Cheese Curd in Paradise) is amazing! You could try this Chicken Spaghetti Casserole from Sweet & Savory Meals, too!
Storage: Keep in an air tight jar and use as needed. I buy spice jars from Amazon.
Additions: You may like to add celery seed, celery salt, nutmeg or cloves. There is no salt in this recipe, so bear that in mind when thinking about seasoning. Cayenne pepper will give this a kick, too!

Measure all ingredients into a mortar and pestle and grind lightly. Don’t do it to the point that you have powder, you still want to see the leaves of the seasoning. We are just grinding to make them all the same size and to blend well.
